GERMANY’s AGRICULTURAL INVESTMENT IN NIGERIA

Many partner countries have increased their agricultural exports in recent decades. However, the diversity of export products is comparably low. In sub-Saharan Africa, regional trade in agricultural products fails to achieve its potential. Most partner countries rely on food imports to meet their nutrition requirements.

In promoting agricultural value chains, German development cooperation has established an approach that integrates small farms into markets and increases value creation at all levels.

 From the German agricultural market perspective, where do you see specific opportunities to become active in Africa?

 The Nigerian Incentive-based Risk Sharing System for Agricultural Lending (NIRSAL) is partnering the German Agribusiness Alliance (GAA) in its strategic efforts to deepen agribusiness in the country

This partnership with GAA is one of such significant collaborations that will strengthen the bilateral relations between Nigeria and Germany towards promoting sustainable investments in Nigeria.

“As an organization, we recognize the importance of strategic partnerships as a sine qua non in boosting the success of agriculture and agribusinesses, providing the capitals that our people need to improve their livelihoods. “This engagement with GAA will also serve as a platform for the pooling and exchanging of economic ideas and interests around agriculture and agribusiness.

Agricultural investment by Germany in Ghana

The goal of German Development cooperation is to support Ghana in enhancing the competitiveness of agro- allied industry to serve local and international markets thereby creating Jobs..His Excellency Christoph Retzlaff,  who announced this when he paid a courtesy call on the Agric Minister at his office last Friday, observed that there are great potentials in the country’s agricultural sector which when tapped will inure to the utmost benefits of all Ghanaians.

                He said Germany will readily support Ghana’s agriculture particularly in partnership with the private sector to improve its growth and development. The German Ambassador to Ghana therefore commended the Agric Minister for his zeal and commitment towards his duty.

He therefore requested that the Ministry furnishes him with government’s plans and proposals towards revamping the agricultural sector so that his government can adequately contribute. On his part, the Food and Agriculture Minister welcomed the idea and expressed government of Ghana’s readiness to partner Germany in the development of the agric sector.

Agricultural investment by Germany in Cameroon

 The personal representative for Africa of German chancellor Angela Merkel Nooke has confirmed the creation of green Innovation centre for Agriculture in Cameroon which will be dedicated to processing Agricultural products which intends to develop Africa.

 Innovations in the agriculture and food sector have increased the incomes of small farming enterprises, boosted employment and improved the regional food supply in the rural target regions.
